"Come, let us go down, and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” Genesis 11:7 NSRV
Instructions
Once you begin, a sentence will appear on screen. Read each word as it's hightlighted, like a sing-along. After you finish reading your sentence, press next to load a new sentence. As the timer ticks down, words become much harder to read. Keep up with the highlighting, and read to the best of your ability. The piece is much easier to perform in landscape mode if you are reading on a mobile device 📱.
Background
This piece was inspired by the biblical tale of the Tower of Babel. In the story, the Babylonians began construction of a tower which was as high as the heavens. God punished the workers by confusing their ability to speak with one another. Thus, the workers dispersed all over the globe, resulting in the many languages that exist today. Instead of the piece reaching a critical mass, and having all words become nonsensical, the piece progressively introduces word manipulations to ease you into the chaotic reading that will ensue.
